Sixth Form Enrichment

David Ross Education Trust

Joining a 6th Form at a DRET academy is an important choice for any young person.  Although each academy has its unique choice of subjects and enrichment offers, every academy agrees to offer its students the following;

Complete a visit to at least one university.

You may or may not have already decided that you want to go to university.  All DRET 6th forms will ensure you visit at least one university during your time with us, so you can experience it for yourself.

Attend a UCAS conference.

UCAS is the organisation you use to apply to university.  Attending some of their events in person or online will help you understand the application process and what your options are when you finish 6th Form

Ensure that you and your parents/carers receive support and guidance on student finance

If you go to university, you need to know what it costs, how you can access loans and grants and how to manage your finances efficiently

Provide you with a rigorous program of support for entry to Universities, apprenticeships or employment.

Whatever you decide to do after sixth form we will ensure you are well prepared.  From understanding how to fill in an application form, developing your CV or practising for interviews, DRET 6th forms will ensure you can show your best self.

Super Curricular Support

To make your university application competitive, top universities expect you to have read and researched your subject beyond the A Level syllabus.  We will ensure you have support to do this.

Follow a bespoke PSHE program, which meets the needs of each 16-19 year old.

From keeping healthy, leaning about finance or helping you to understand the challenges and issues young people face today each academy will ensure you have access to a program that prepares you for life as a young adult.

Experience of a workplace

All DRET 6th forms will ensure that you are able to gain experience about the world of work.  This could be through visiting workplaces, spending some time doing work experience or meeting with visiting adults from industry.

Give you access to a minimum 2 hours a week of sporting opportunities within the KS5 curriculum.

We want all our students to stay fit and healthy.  Having access to sport means you can maintain your health and fitness alongside your studies.

Give you the opportunity to meet with a Level 6 qualified careers adviser.

This person will be qualified to the national standard to ensure you receive high quality, impartial careers advice.

You will have the opportunity to take part in an overseas expedition involving a community project.

We want to give our students the chance to participate in life changing experiences.  If you want to take part in an expedition, you will join like-minded students from across the DRET network.  We will support your fundraising efforts to meet the costs of the expedition.

You will have the opportunity to act as a mentor and role model for students in Key Stage 3 & 4.

This may include participating in paired reading, running clubs or supporting GCSE students with their studies. Not only will it help these students but also it will help you develop yourself.
